Rolf Riedl GmbH transported this 170-tonne absorption tower to a waiting heavy-lift vessel via two low-bed swiveling bogies of five and eight axles.
A team of European specialized transport companies worked together to move a 49-meter-long, 170-tonne absorption tower from Pietarsaari in northwest Finland to Texas, U.S. German plant exporter Krupp-Uhde GmbH hired Hagen, Germany-based Rolf Riedl GmbH as the primary contractor.
Along with Helsinki-based Finn Heavy Project OY, Riedl`s Bremen-based daughter company Transgerma Riedl & Kiehntopf GmbH chartered the Dutch heavy-lift carrier Snoekgracht for pre-carriage transport of the tower to the port of Pietarsaari.
The Riedl team used low-bed swiveling bogies of five and eight axles to transport the tower the three kilometres to the port. The route was made more challenging by heavy snowfall. The tower was positioned alongside the Snoekgracht vessel and hoisted on board by two of the ship`s 120-tonne cranes. The load was transported to the Texas port of Orange, where it was delivered to its final destination via low-bed trailer.
